Legal Manager | Property Title Due Diligence and Mortgage Documentation | NBFC Chennai

Job Description:

A listed NBFC with branches across India is hiring a Legal Manager or Senior Legal Manager for its central legal team. The role is based in Chennai and covers mortgage transactions across India. Law graduate, LLB or LLM preferred, with 10 to 15 years in property law or mortgage transactions at a bank, NBFC or housing finance company. Hindi is required. Candidates outside Chennai who will move to Chennai are welcome.

Job Responsibility:

• Conduct property title verification, ownership checks and risk assessment, and trace title chains and encumbrances.
• Provide legal support for mortgage transactions across India and recommend measures to reduce legal risk.
• Draft, review and vet legal documents, including sale deeds, lease deeds, powers of attorney and MoUs.
• Provide legal opinions on property and financing transactions.
• Handle SARFAESI matters, arbitration cases, legal notices and recovery cases.
• Ensure compliance with property laws, statutory regulations and internal policies.
• Liaise with government authorities, legal counsel and internal teams.

Educational Requirements:

• Law graduate, LLB or LLM preferred.
• 10 to 15 years in property law or mortgage transactions.
• Hindi is required.
• Based in Chennai, with work across India.

Experiences:

• Property title due diligence at a bank, NBFC or housing finance company.
• Mortgage documentation for transactions across India.
• SARFAESI, arbitration and recovery matters.
• Legal opinions on property and financing transactions.

Main Duties:
